The Arbeitszeitgesetz (ArbZG) applies to Mietwagen operations too. Ten hours of work per day is the upper limit. Eleven hours of rest between shifts is the lower limit. Anyone scheduling shifts that break this risks fines. And their Konzession. This check verifies in seconds if two consecutive shifts are legal.
How the checklist works
You enter two workdays. For each day, the start and end of the shift. The calculator checks three things. First: the length of shift 1. § 3 ArbZG allows a maximum of 10 hours. Second: the length of shift 2. Same limit. Third: the rest between the end of shift 1 and the start of shift 2. § 5 ArbZG requires at least 11 hours. For each check, you see a traffic light. Green or red.

›What does the Arbeitszeitgesetz require?
§ 3 ArbZG (the German working-time law tells you how much work is allowed) allows a maximum of 8 hours per day. It can go to 10 hours if the 6-month average stays at 8. § 5 ArbZG requires at least 11 hours of rest between two workdays. There are exceptions for emergencies. Mietwagen is not one of them.
›Does waiting time count as work time?
Waiting time when the driver must stay available is work time. That's called standby. Only a real break doesn't count. It must be at least 15 minutes in one piece. And the driver decides it. With Uber and Bolt, most waiting is standby. So it's work time.
›What happens for a violation?
Fines up to 15,000 euros per violation. For systematic breaches with an accident on top, a criminal case under § 22 ArbZG. Your insurance can seek recourse if a rest-time violation played a role in an accident.
